We often hear people and our elders say that exercise, yoga, running and jogging are good for your health. The question that arises when you get skeptical is " How is exercise is good for me, it gives strength to my muscles, yes but what else ?". So, what we have here is the "else" of that story. 

On a wider view, there are a total of 4 types of exercises that exist.

  1. Endurance Exercises :- Can you go long and go hard at the same time? That is what this exercises are for , it gives you the strength to endure the strenuous activities of each day.
  2. Strength Training :- The name says it all, It focuses more on building your strength and less on endurance.
  3. Balance Training :- These exercises helps you to get through each day while maintaining balance at a higher level and for a longer time. The simplest application is riding a bicycle.
  4. Flexibility Exercise :- These ones have more focus on retaining your mobility unlike other three this one actually is in your body from the very start you just have to maintain and enhance it.
By far the types of exercises have not been able to categorize the areas of benefits they provide.

It is believed and seen that it not only improves your physical health but also mental well-being. A person who does exercise is more immune to depression that the one who does not.

 The most obvious is first is helps you get in and remain in shape, lose weight, gain muscles, flaunt your hard work and make sure you fight obesity in style.
The reason being your body expends energy in 3 ways :
  • Digesting food 
  • Exercising
  • Maintaining body functions like heartbeat.

While first and third are related to your metabolism rate and hence takes a lot of time if you focus solely on diet. On the other the hand, Exercising increases your metabolism rate of course your initial rate matters but it gives certain amount of control higher than the other two hence it certainly is better.


2. It Reduces the Risk of many Diseases

The main source of many of the chronic and some other diseases is the lack of activity , also called inactivity.

On the other hand, regular exercise can control your sugar level by heightening insulin levels, the higher insulin in your body the less your sugar level. So, lack of regular exercise has a increased risk of type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol levels leading to heart diseases and in fatal cases heart attack and eventually an early death.


3. Clearer thinking and judgement skills

It may not seem very direct but it is one of the biggest advantage of exercise. Whenever you workout the oxygen supplied to your brain is intensified and helps you think better and develops your potential cognitive skills.

In fact the world renowned chess player Vishwanathan Anand told in an interview once that whenever he loses a very important match he makes sure to go to the gym and sweat out as much as possible it helps him ignore his loss and calm himself down.

Also, it is said to have positive signs on your memory by growing your brain cells.Exercise has been shown to cause the hippocampus, a part of the brain that's vital for memory and learning, to grow in size. This serves to increase mental function in older adults



4. It relaxes you , reduces your pain and improves your sleep 

Remember the last time you did something very strenuous ? That night you would have slept like a baby.

The reason is whenever your body is tired it seeks rest that can be given only in sleep. With that of course, you feel more relaxed.

A study has found that mere 150 minutes of exercise per week improves your sleep quality by 65% .

A recent study has found that your body becomes immune to pain to some extent with time as you keep on doing regular exercise. Not to mention, it increases your tolerance level to any level that your dedication can afford.


5. Increase in Energy levels

People who feel tired on daily basis should try to get more tired than your daily basis, sounds weird, right? Well, it might but it is your fatigue levels are like the doses of drugs you take the more you take in the more used to you get to the lower levels and slowly you get used to it except that this one has no withdrawal symptoms and you will never get addicted to it.

A study conveyed that a 4 week plan of regular exercise depicted reduced cases of fatigue in people who had come in with such complaints. You need not worry if you are mere beginner for there are many exercises available for a total beginner too.

Additionally, exercise has been shown to increase energy levels in people suffering from progressive illnesses, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS and multiple sclerosis.



6. It makes you feel Happier

Quite expected after all, with all the benefits that you have seen above who would not be happy , right?  But aside all that it has it's reasons in the roots of science too.

Studies have shown that exercises bring about changes in the part of your brain that have the causes of stress and anxiety. It can also increase the sensitivity of your brain to hormones such as norepinephrine and serotonin which relieves you of depression.Furthermore, exercise has been shown to reduce symptoms in people suffering from anxiety. It can also help be more aware of their mental state and practice distraction from their fears.

Interestingly, it doesn't matter how intense your workout is. It seems that your mood can benefit from exercise no matter the intensity of the physical activity.
In fact, a study in 24 women who had been diagnosed with depression showed that exercise of any intensity significantly decreased feelings of depression .
The effects of exercise on mood are so powerful that choosing to exercise (or not) even makes a difference over short periods.
One study asked 26 healthy men and women who normally exercised regularly to either continue exercising or stop exercising for two weeks. Those who stopped exercising experienced increases in negative mood.
So, next you wanna be happy and think of getting high , then get high on exercises as heavy as possible. xd
